Keith Carr began his musical career as a classically-trained pianist and trumpeter, having been raised in a family of professional musical educators and performers. He spent a number of years performing in various rock and blues groups as a guitarist, and eventually found his way to Irish music as a player of the ten-string cittern and eight-string bouzouki, as well as the tenor banjo.

He performs often in the Washington area, primarily as a member of a duo with flute player Rosemary Gano.
