Guitar: Jazz, Bossa Nova/Samba, Folk, Blues, beginning Classical
A native of Rennes, Brittany (France), who grew up largely in North Carolina, Alex has studied with former Thelonious Monk trumpeter Ray Copeland and nylon-string jazz guitar legend Gene Bertoncini. He plays in venues throughout the Washington, DC, area (see myspace.com/alexwith6strings for his calendar).
He is completing a CD, Nostalgia for Terra Incognita, with his Brazilian jazz quartet, Amerique Latine. The recording will feature his compositions as well as U.S., Brazilian, and French standards.
As a teacher, he enjoys working with intermediate and advanced students on jazz improvisation. He also loves helping beginners discover their own musical voice.
Alex teaches adults of all levels in the following styles: Jazz (Bebop, Swing, Latin), Bossa Nova/Samba, Folk, Blues and Beginning Classical.
He teaches at his home in Mount Rainier ($45/hour or $25/half-hour) but is also available for lessons at HMT ($50/hour).
