Dumbek, djembe, framedrum, folk flute
Stream is an instrument maker and multi-instrumentalist specializing
in woodwinds and percussion in a variety of styles, from jazz
to meditative. He is an accomplished player of various folk flutes
including side blown flutes, shakuhachi, bansuri, panpipes, ney,
and kaval; and multiple percussion instruments, especially dumbek,
djembe and frame drums of various sorts.
Stream is also an expert
in Middle Eastern rhythms and melodic styles. He has performed
at the Kennedy Center, the Smithsonian, the Folger Library, the
Library of Congress, and has given lecture-demonstrations and
interactive rhythm workshops in many schools, libraries and churches.
Stream is a member of the Washington Expressive Arts Alliance.
Stream is the leader of Stream and The Blue Dragon Band, a World Music group which plays "Pan-Cultural Trance Music" at festivals, private parties and benefits.
Stream also repairs drums and folk flutes for the House of Musical Traditions.
On Friday nights, Stream runs the Beat Jam, a drum circle for all ages.
Private lessons in folk flutes and percussion are $25 for 30 minutes and $50 per hour, and are in Silver Spring, MD.
