Teacher : Marcus Webb

Marcus Webb
Oud: 5-course; Arabic, Sephardic, African

Marcus Webb is recognized as an incredibly creative and innovative guitarist, improviser, producer and Oud player in the fields of jazz, electronic and experimental music. Combining breathtaking technique with musical intelligence, he displays a mastery of expression that encompasses delicate lyricism and sonic abstractions.

Marcus started playing guitar at the age of 5. Along the way he has studied with Washington DC guitar giant Tom Newman, and majored in jazz studies at Oberlin Conservatory with guitarist Bob Ferrazza and classical guitar with Steven Aaron.

A student and fan of Israeli and Palestinian music, Marcus took up the Oud 4 years ago after a private lesson with top Iraqi Oud player Rahim Al Haj. He has studied Oud and attended various master workshops from Simon Shaheen, Mohsen Subhi and Rahim Al Haj.

Marcus teaches 5-course Oud in the tuning E-A-D-G-C. He teaches the regional traditions of Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. Lessons are $25 per half-hour and $45 per hour, and are held at the instructor's home in Takoma Park, MD. Lessons must be booked and paid in advance by the month.
