This harp was made in 1982 by Chris Caswell, in his California shop. Caswell passed away in 2013. This harp is made of koa wood, and has a full set of bronze blade sharping levers. 27 strings (low C to high A). Measures about 38 inches tall.
When it came to us, the keel block was separating, so we had our harp repairman (Rick Kemper, a reputable harp builder in his own right) repair it with a composite patch under the outer string rib (about a $300 repair). Rick also replaced a missing string.
There are also horizontal cracks across the soundboard - but they are cosmetic, not structural - and are typical of harps with a solid sound board of this age. Rick also commented that the neck pillar joint has opened up slightly but does not appear to be an immediate structural concern.
Included with the harp are a tuning wrench, black soft padded case (slightly dingy on the exterior, but protective), and two detachable feet (additional dowels would be needed to install them). The harp does not stand on its own without the feet.
This harp sold for about $4,500 new, back in the early 80s. This one is available for $1,399. As noted above, it is not in perfect condition, but still a solid player. Tone is both warm and bright.
