Although it has no model markings, this is essentially Stewart's "Universal Favorite" No. 1 model. Made ca. 1895. It was also made in No. 2 and No. 3 versions, with higher levels of ornamentation.
High-quality, turn-of-the-century banjo by a famous maker, still highly sought after. All original except for modern planetary gears replacing celluloid taper pegs and a Renaissance mylar head (can be retrofitted with calf skin) Thoroughly refurbished and in excellent playing condition. Cherry neck, ebony fretboard, metal "spun-over" wood rim with sturdy tension hoop (old modification at neck) and 20 hooks, nuts and L-shoes. Rare talon tailpiece.
