The Glencoe School of Scottish Fiddling
Directed by Seán Heely
What makes the Scottish style of fiddling different from Irish and other styles? From elegant, haunting slow airs, to mighty pipe marches and the wild and rugged Strathspeys and Reels, the tunes hearken to the beautiful Scottish countryside and its rich musical culture. Learn the techniques and stylistic idioms of Scottish Fiddle music as well as common session tunes. At the end of the 4 sessions, students will have a broad understanding of the different types of tunes and each of their functions. The emphasis is on learning by ear and at the end of each class, sheet music will be provided. All ages and levels welcome (participants should have a basic facility on the violin in first position). Children 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult.
Private lessons with Seán are available after each session. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
