One of the most stunning dulcimers we've ever had in the shop! Custom-built in 1990 by Blue Lion instruments in California. This is a bass dulcimer, which is often tuned one octave lower than a standard dulcimer. Currently, this one is strung in standard dulcimer tuning, and has an extra set of strings included for bass tuning. It has a 27.5" scale length and 1.75" nut width. The nut and saddle are precut for multiple string configurations.
Made of all-solid woods: western red cedar top, walnut back & sides. Custom giraffe inlay of golden mother-of-pearl in large leaves. We have documentation and correspondence from Blue Lion about the inlay, and it was relayed to us that the cost of such an inlay today would be about $700.
Overall, the dulcimer is in excellent condition, with just a few minute dings/scratches. There is also a hole for a strap button behind the headstock (see photos). No visible fretwear. It has a rich, sustaining tone, with a bell-like clarity and well-supported low end.
A Harptone tolex hard case is included.
