1960s 5-String FrankenBanjo (used)

Regular price $ 495.00

This composite openback banjo is a fun hybrid model that has been surgically reconstructed from multiple body parts! It is in very good cosmetic condition since it was restored by our senior HMT luthier.

This instrument has a Kay-type neck and an older wood-rim pot (possibly Oscar Schmidt). It is rock maple with two black-white-black purfling rings inlaid (unusual design for an inexpensive banjo).

-20 round hooks
-Stepped tension hoop
-Hex shoes
-Guitar-type geared pegs with a friction 5th
-Truss rod
-Nut measures 1 and 1/8"
-Scale measures 27 and 1/2"
-New Access Stage 1 gig bag included!

Repairs include the following:

-All parts have been disassembled, cleaned, and polished
-Newly installed fiberskyn head measuring 10 and 7/8"
-Refitted neck; bushed and redrilled heel for lag bolt; and reinstalled coordinator rod
-Set up: dressed frets, conditioned fretboard, restrung, adjusted nut and tuners, etc.
-Newly installed maple/ebony bridge measuring 11/16"

Note from HMT owner and proprietor Dave Eisner: "It's alive! This banjo is the sum of its parts -- and although from different sources, this came together quite nicely as a unique student-level, old-time frailing banjo!"
