Scott Morrison will present a 2-hour multi-media lecture/demonstration/discussion about the nature of percussion in Celtic music and the intersection between the Gaelic language and those traditions as they pertain to Ireland and Scotland. The presentation will be in two halves with a 10 min intermission. The instruments being discussed will include: the Bones, the Spoons, the Scottish snare, and of course the Bodhrán. Other topics will include: the cultural importance (or lack thereof) of Celtic percussion, the future of Celtic percussion, anthropological theories on the evolution of the Bodhrán, etiquette at trad sessions, and the influence of modern pop music on traditional interpretations of Irish and Scottish Celtic music in general.  The lecture will include recorded and live performance examples.

In addition to regular workshops at HMT, Scott Morrison has taught at Appalachian Bluegrass in Catonsville, the Gaelic College in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and at various Celtic festivals in MD, VA and PA. Scott holds a B.S. in Music from Frostburg State University, with a double concentration in K-12 Music Education and Percussion Performance. He has been running his own music school, "Rimshots" (based in Elkridge, MD) for 20 years. In addition to performing locally with world beat band Big Blow and the Bushwackers, and his own Scottish/Irish trad ensemble Dileab Phriseil, Scott is also an accomplished Gaelic speaker.
