In this intensive instrument building workshop, veteran musician Jason Mullinax will instruct students on how to construct their very own amplified spring boxes (Springzingers) as well as some of the many techniques that can be used to play them. At the end of the session, students will be able to take their one-of-a-kind electroacoustic percussion instruments home to show off to their friends and family. Please note that participants will be using drills, saws, soldering irons, and other basic hand tools - so dress accordingly. All experience levels welcome and no previous musical background required. Ages 12 & up.

"I started facilitating Music Discovery Lab workshops around the region in 2015 and I've been continuously inspired by the enthusiastic response from both children and adults ever since. Some of the most rewarding moments in my work are when students realize that they too can create interesting music out of every day objects. I feel that my job as an instructor is to demystify the process of instrument building and music making so that anyone who has a passion for exploring sound can create something of their very own."
