Drumset: rudiments, rock, reggae, jazz, Afrobeat
The infectious and propulsive beats that steam out of Tosin's drums are nothing but phenomenal. A journey that started over 25 years ago has taken the Nigerian-born drummer to many musical paths, such as touring, recording and performing in different parts of the world with different artists including Spyro Gyra, Jon Carroll, Femi Kuti, Julie Dexter, Chopteeth, and many others.
In 2009, 2010 and 2011, Tosin Aribisala was nominated for the best world music instrumentalist by the Washington Area Music Association for the Wammies Awards. In 2010, Tosin received the Mayor's Recognition Awards for his contribution to the DC's Mayor's Office of African Affair's First Africa Festival.
Currently, Tosin leads his own band and teaches drum set in the Washington, DC area. He has led his band on performances both as opening act and as headliner at major venues including The Kennedy Center, Strathmore Music Center, Atlas Performing Arts Center, The Hamilton, Blues Alley, Busboys and Poets, and many festivals and clubs. As for teaching, Tosin focuses on meeting an individual student's specific needs, knowing that every drum student has unique learning abilities. Tosin employs music theory and natural learning mode, which is learning to play by ear. This way, students have different approaches to learning and playing their instruments. As a versatile musician and drummer, Tosin covers different genres of drumming styles in his lessons. These range from Rock to Reggae, Jazz to Latin, Funk, R&B, Rudiments, Calypso, Afrobeat, and more. FOr more information, see tosinbeats.com
