1919 Gibson A-1 Mandolin (used)

Regular price $ 1,599.00

This 1919 Gibson A-1 came to us via a large estate collection. We are fairly sure the serial number is 51679, though the label is a bit difficult to read. Tuners are original and function well. Pickguard is absent. Tailpiece cover is a replacement from a later Gibson model. When it came to us it was fairly structurally healthy, but we had our senior luthier perform the following repairs to put it in very good playing condition:

- Refretted 1-12
- Back was removed and brace below soundhole replaced
- Crack at bottom edge of back repaired (1 cleat,) and retouched
- Top crack, treble side of fretboard to sound hole repaired (1 cleat,) retouched
- Top varnish restored
- Complete set-up and adjustment, including new bridge saddle (adjustable bridge is non-original)

It now places nicely and sounds great. Action measures 2/32" at 12th fret. Due to typical finish wear and previous cracks, we are placing it in overall "Good" condition, but this is definitely a solid player that will be a reliable instrument.

Original hard case included.
