Gypsy's Music A-Style Mandolin by Walt Kuhlman (used)

Regular price $ 1,499.00

A-style mandolin with intricately carved soundhole, built by the late Walt Kuhlman in New Market, MD. Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back & sides, gold tailpiece & tuners with pearl buttons, adjustable bridge. Serial number appears to be OL14120094. Gig bag included. Strap button is mounted off-center from tailpiece.

This mandolin has a seam separation running about 8 inches up the back center seam. The previous owner of this mandolin informs us that this was present during construction when he bought the mandolin new directly from Walt. Walt hadn't wanted to remove the top, and told the owner if this ever got bigger, he would repair it. Unfortunately, Walt passed away in 2015. We had our luthier examine it and he also felt it wasn't of major concern, but could be repaired for between $50-$100 depending on the type of varnish used. If the buyer is interested in getting this done after purchase, we can have our luthier complete the repair before shipping.

The seam separation has been stable and the mandolin has been kept carefully humidified for several years. The mandolin is otherwise in very good playable condition, and issue does not seem to affect the sound or playability in any way. That being said, due to this flaw, this mandolin is sold AS-IS, no return option.
