Howard Jones Army-Navy Flatiron Mandolin (used)

This flatiron mandolin was made by Howard Jones in Oakton, VA, 2006. Jones passed away in 2022, and we are selling a few of his instruments on behalf of the estate. After retiring from the Navy, he earned a degree in piano technology from Shenandoah Conservatory and founded Oakton Piano Works, through which he provided piano tuning and restoration services throughout the D.C. area for more than two decades. He was very active in the local old-time music community, and also built guitars, dulcimers and harpsichords.

This mandolin features:
- Thin flat Body style
- Solid Spruce top
- Solid maple back and sides (finished dark brown)
- Round soundhole
- Pearl Rosette with black and white Purfling
- Rosewood fingerboard and faceplate
- Bolt on Neck
- 1 3/16 nut width
- 13 7/8" scale

It had a full setup by our luthier including fret touch-up, nut adjustment, and light polishing. D'Addario DJ73 light gauge strings.
