Martin D-28 built in 1974 (serial 350938). 1 11/16" nut width. This instrument was part of the collection of the late Johnny Fox, sword-swallower and performer for many years at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, who passed away from cancer last year. We are selling it on behalf of Johnny's estate.
This guitar came to us with a previous headstock repair, that although poorly done cosmetically (including what looks like vice grip marks left in the finish), has been examined thoroughly by our senior luthier and deemed to be structurally sound. Our luthier (a Martin-authorized warranty repairman) also replaced the pickguard which was peeling up, dressed the frets and did a general setup.
The good news is that the guitar is now playing quite nicely! The action is now set up to 3/32" on the high E and 4/32" on low E. Our luthier noted this guitar appears to have had a previous neck reset, but he was able to get the action playable without another reset.
There is a bit of finish crackling on the top, and some minor dings/scratches here and there - all pretty commensurate with its age. No structural cracks other than the previous headstock repair, again deemed stable.
Original blue Martin case is included, still in good condition.
We do offer a 7-day review period and return option - buyer is responsible for all shipping costs in case of return. Please see the numerous photos and contact us with any questions.
