McGinnis Shaw "Clef Club" 17-fret tenor banjo set up for Irish tuning, dating to 1915-1922. It has a 12 1/8" metal rim with 18 hooks, large metal-lined holes, "patent" stamped on outside of tone ring, multi-layer backstrapping. It has a 23" scale length and 1" nut width. Hardshell case is included.
This banjo came to us as part of a large estate collection. It appears to have been possibly refinished, with a somewhat uneven color and texture. It came to us with a skin head, and though we installed a mylar head, we are including the hoop necessary if you want to install a new skin head. Our senior luthier Marc Glickman performed the following restoration and repair work:
- Disassemble, clean & polish all parts
- New mylar head
- New Gotoh planetary tuners
- Glued open seams
- New bone nut
- Adjusted neck fit
- Repaired split on strut
- Set up for Irish tuning (.012-.020-.030-.042)
Now in very good condition; plays nicely. Free shipping within the continental US!
