Serial number 30415, dating to early 1920s. Compact, open-back basic model, simple steel tension hoop, 10-inch rim. Vega quality construction and materials, in very good condition. Mahogany neck, maple rim, unbound ebony fingerboard. Tuners are likely original, 22 round hooks & L-shoes, and cloud tailpiece riveted to tension hoop. Plating in great condition.
This instrument just had $300 of repair work invested with our senior luthier, including:
- Complete disassembly, clean/polish & new plastic head installed
- Strut reglued
- Rivets drilled out, tailpiece re-attached to tension hoop
- Full setup with light fret dressing, nut shimmed
- Cloud tailpiece replaced
Original hardshell case in very good condition is included.
This instrument was part of the collection of the late Johnny Fox, sword-swallower and performer for many years at the Maryland Renaissance Festival, who passed away from cancer last year. We are selling it on behalf of Johnny's estate.
