The S.S. Stewart "The Amateur" Grade 2 was a 5-string openback banjo produced in Philadelphia during the late 19th century. While often categorized as an entry-level or "learner" model in the Stewart catalog, this vintage instrument is highly regarded today for its bright and focused tone when played with nylon or gut strings. This particular model has the "standard" 11" rim size. Recently restored and deep-cleaned, this vintage openback is ready for a new old-time enthusiast.
