Vega FR-5 open back banjo for sale in very good condition.
This is a "Frankenbanjo." The pot is an 11" Vega Folklore, circa 1965. The neck has had the original dowel stick removed and a double coordinating rod replacing it and setting the neck angle with that device. Very solid construction. The rear of the peghead has had the Grover Sta-tite tuners removed and the screw holes expertly filled. The new tuners are inline geared 4:1 planetary pegs which are more precise in their tuning capability. We do not know the year of the Vega neck. The case is a hardshell case (case alone for $175 is included) designed by Kevin Enoch, a wonderful banjo maker in our area. The banjo rim is 5-ply maple. The sound is "plunky" old time. Excellent frailer. Smooth action that is consistent up and down the neck.
