Troublesome Creek instruments are handmade in Hindman, KY. The company trains people in substance abuse recovery to become some of the best luthiers in the country. Using the finest in locally-sourced, Appalachian hardwoods, they create stunning instruments that are both tonally and environmentally excellent, while each sale contributes to the regrowth of our post-coal economy. When you purchase a Troublesome Creek instrument, you get more than a terrific handmade heirloom; you take ownership in a legacy that you helped build. Our new “flat top mandolin” is anything but flat! With clarity and punch that strongly emulates its carved siblings, this little powerhouse transcends all others in its price range. Our hot hide-glued “Spidercone” X-bracing system forms the Appalachian Red Spruce soundboard into a pronounced, effectively graduated dish, giving these little guys a voice unlike anything else on the market today! Arched fingerboards, adjustable necks and fluid, hand-carved “Caterpillar” bridges ensure playability, honey-sweetness and sustain.

The HM-1 features select Appalachian Red Spruce top and richly figured Curly Walnut back & sides, BWB rosette and prewar-style Ivoroid or tortoise binding. MOP or premium resin logo inlay and side dots. Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Gloss Nitro Lacquer finish. Caterpillar bridge with Golden Age Nickel tuners and Troublesome Creek hardshell case.
