Antique Goulding & Wood Boxwood 4-key Flute ca. 1832 (used)

Regular price $ 900.00

This Goulding & Wood 4-key boxwood flute comes to us from a larger collection of a local player/collector who is downsizing. They purchased it in 2015 in refurbished condition (new pads & cork, springs adjusted, etc). Made in London, likely around 1832 or earlier.

Head is stamped "GOULDING / WOOD & Co / Pall Mall / London." The two middle sections and lower foot are stamped "GOULDING / WOOD & Co." It has a small original embouchure (8.4 x 9.6mm). It has a rare, fully tuneable foot-joint with calibrated extension, and 4 beautifully crafted silver keys, all working well.

Total length is 59.9cm (not including foot extension). Length from middle of the embouchure to the end with the adjustable extension is about 52.4cm. It is non-transposing (in the key of C), but like all early flutes, the lowest note is D concert.

The flute is in very good playing and cosmetic condition for its age. There are no cracks in the first three sections. There is an almost invisible repaired/sealed crack in the foot joint extension. Our repair shop who examined the flute detected a very small leak coming from this crack - but since this segment is metal-lined, playability/sound is not affected. All 4 bone rings and head cap are in good condition.

Original wood case in good condition is included. Insured shipping is $40 within the continental US. Interested buyers outside the continental US should contact us for a shipping quote (please include your full address).
